Spy Week: Splinter Cell: Blacklist
Everyone one of us have that game that the first time it was announced and we watched footage of the game and first time we learned about the premise of the game, we just totally disregard it. For me, that game was Splinter Cell. The original Splinter Cell was released on the original Xbox back in 2002 and I wanted nothing to do with it. I thought it was just too slow paced and not enough action; the thoughts of sneaking around in the dark just weren’t fun at all.

Revitalizing the Wii U Part 2: The Wonderful 101
It has come to my realization that even though the Nintendo Wii U, right now, is in not the best of shapes when it comes to the sales and the continual lack of third party support dropping off left and right and lack of games. However, I also do realize that when it comes to new console releases, this is a stage that they go through. We are just very forgetful. Well, things are looking to start to change for the Wii U. If there is something that can definitely be said about Nintendo is that their first party games are the best and they sell systems. This month Pikmin 3 was released and you can read what I wrote right here because I truly believe that Pikmin 3 is the start of the revitalization of the Wii U. I am still playing through it and it’s simply beautiful and fun. That’s Nintendo for you!

Xbox One Unboxing Video
Is it so weird for an unboxing video to be done by the company that makes the product? I don’t think so at all, in fact when it comes to unboxing videos I love them! There is just something about getting a chance to see what to expect, especially when it comes to a brand new piece of equipment. A better question would be, how come it doesn’t take away from the excitement or joy or surprise of when you first open up your own? Ummm I have no clue! Nevertheless, check out the Xbox One Unboxing video courtesy of the one and only Major Nelson. After you watch the video, let us know, does this reinforce or change your feelings and thoughts about the Xbox One? -Sil3ntX
Pikmin 3: Revitalizing the Wii U
Let’s just get this out of the way from now; the Nintendo Wii U is hurting! Every week there are more and more evidence of this. The 3rd party support seems to be abandoning the Wii U like rats off of a sinking ship. Retailers are saying there is a price drop imminent while Nintendo says no there isn’t. Then you have retailers reducing their Wii U inventory because of lack of sales or just all out dropping the Wii U from their shelves. Of course all this is topped off by month to month poor sale figures of the Wii U and with the holiday season quickly approaching, the storm of horizon with the new next gen consoles, the Xbox One and Playstation 4, it’s really easy to get ready to throw that towel into the ring.
Remember when I mentioned before that being a Nintendo fan is a tough one? I will shout it from the mountain top, BEING A NINTENDO FAN IS SO TOUGH! But also remember this please; Nintendo has only ever reported an annual lost once, once! They will be okay.
You know that saying, it’s always darkest before the dawn? I believe that the Wii U is about to see the light of dawn. You might ask how exactly and I say starting with the help of its 1st party games and first up is Pikmin 3!
From the first time I played this very different strategy game named Pikmin, I fell in love and so did a multitude of other gamers. Nintendo had a hit. In fact, the GameCube was struggling also at that time and Pikmin gave it a well needed boost. Well, it’s time for Pikmin 3 to do the same for the Wii U! Can Pikmin 3 be able to do it, well only time will tell?
Pikmin 3, is in my opinion, the Wii U’s first real HD game that shows off the power and beauty of the console to date. The amount of options that’s given to you in Pikmin 3 is enough to please the pickiest of gamers. Of course, there will still be those that are just un-please-able.
The Wii U will get better as the time moves on. Still on the horizon are awesome games like the Wonderful 101, and Bayanetta 2, Wind Waker HD, Smash Bros., and Mario Kart 8, with fillers in-between like Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Call of Duty Ghosts, Batman Origins, and Disney Infinity. Plus others!
So, we’ll be picking up our copy of Pikmin 3 come release date so look out for our review thereafter.
Heavy Rain Review
I am well aware that this game, Heavy Rain, has been out for a very long time for the PS3. The thing is that, for the longest time, I was an avid Playstation hater. I have no problem admitting that. I refused to taint my console set up with anything Sony related. I held this stance even to the point of missing out on some quality games. Don’t get me wrong, I could give praises to games that were awesome and I understood that I probably just would not be able to lay them and that was okay. But then, things started to change. Not sure how or when or even why. I started putting together a list of Sony Playstation games that I would want to play and have in my collection. Games like the God of War series, Uncharted collection, Heavy Rain, etc. Then when I first saw the Last of Us and Beyond: Two Souls, I broke! I immediately started making plans to owning my own PS3. In fact, the Last of Us was one of the main reasons for my PS3 purchase. You can check out our review right here. So after completing the Last of Us, the next game on my list which I just HAD to play was Heavy Rain. I am an addict when it comes to games with deep story lines and Heavy Rain had just that. I know there are tons of reviews from before the game was released back in 2009 and shortly after. But really, 4 years later? Well, tough, I’m still going to write one because I loved the game and want people to know about it. Don’t worry this will be a short review seeing that the game has been out for such a long time. In a nutshell, Heavy Rain, a Quantic Dream interactive drama, adventure, action game, puts you in the role of four main playable characters. You play each character trying to solve the crimes of a serial killer known as the Origami Killer. The four characters include a father, Ethan Mars, a private investigator, Scott Shelby, a FBI investigator, Norman Jayden, and a journalist, Madison Paige. While you do play as each of these characters, Heavy Rain’s main character can easily be Ethan Mars. The game follows the latest victim of the Origami Killer, Ethan’s son, Shawn. You find and follow clues as you race against the clock to try and find his son.
Heavy Rain is a clever game. I love games where the choices you make affect the flow of the game. For instance, if you are not careful, characters in the game can die. Also, although you are playing as four individual characters which in the world of Heavy Rain probably would never meet or interact, their storylines actually crisscross each other. One of my favorite parts of the game was seeing how my choices affected each of the story lines. I promise you, by the end of Heavy Rain, you’ll be saying, “oooohhhh that’s why ____________!” Now, I am thinking that because Heavy Rain has some age on it what I am about to say is justified. While at times the character modeling was pretty to look at, there were times that the graphic work looked dated. Also, don’t expect pin point responsiveness from the controls. The game at times handles like a 5 ton truck with a 10 ton hitch, in other words, not that well. However, what Heavy Rain loses out in controls, it more than makes up for it in an engulfing storyline. The atmosphere of the game is spot on and at times downright depressing, which works for Heavy Rain. Heavy Rain will need to be played at least a couple times through just to try out the different choices and decisions and watch the various outcomes. Also, if you get the chance, download the DLC the Taxidermist which is a sort of prequel. Overall, Heavy Rain is a very enjoyable game with a very decent story line and subpar controls. If you like detective murder mysteries then you’ll enjoy Quantic Dream’s Heavy Rain. Confident Gamers give Heavy Rain an 8.5/10. -Sil3ntX
